The Mississippi Project is a carbon offset direct provider. We are different from most carbon offset providers in that we are not brokers. That is, we do not take contributions, pool them and buy into projects around the world where one cannot be sure of the quality or the outcome of the project or sadly– even if there is a project. We offer you a tangible product, for a specific purpose. You will know what you have purchased and where it will be planted.
All of our projects are currently located on 500 acres in and around Louisville, a beautiful small central Mississippi town in the heart of “pine country”. We are a fourth generation Mississippi family partnership committed to the land, committed to conservation, and committed to our projects.
We bring to our projects decades of solid land/forest management practices and continue to use the latest, most updated information available to manage our timberland.
We, for example, recently lessened the impact of the pine beetles, which can cause extensive damage to pine forests.! We did this without the use of chemicals and poisons – but rather through the use of regular inspections and, upon first signs of infestation, taking swift action to stop them.
You can see the handiwork of this voracious beetle in timberland throughout the United States. The timberland around and along the mountains of Lake Arrowhead, CA, for example, where once mighty pines stood, are now timber stands of eerie dead trees as a result of the destructiveness of the bark beetle– in combination with poor forest management practices. This devastation did not need to happen and should not have happened at least to the extent that it did. We at The Mississippi Project would not have allowed it to happen!
The Mississippi Project has at its disposal consultants from Mississippi State University's Department of Forestry, only 30 miles away , and a resident forester retired from Georgia Pacific after 30 years of service mostly in the “field” throughout the timberlands of Mississippi and Arkansas. We can consult with them when necessary and do not hesitate to contact them when we believe we need their advice, because....
We at The Mississippi Project, do not simply plant trees and forget them, we watch over and care for them.
