If you are like most of us, you are alarmed by all the gloom and doom reporting on global warming and the feelings of helplessness and hopelessness this reporting brings about. We at The Mississippi Project are alarmed, too. But we are not “hand wringers” or gloom and doomers, we have taken action–we are part of the solution!
Every activity we humans undertake, whether it is preparing lunch, driving to work, or taking a trip creates carbon emissions. And while it is impossible to have a emission free world, there are positive, simple things that we can do that will greatly reduce them. Things like reducing energy consumption in our homes and using public transportation whenever possible. (Go to www.epa.gov/climatechange & visit our What You Can Do section to get many more practical ideas.)
But we know that conservation alone is not enough. To become part of the solution, something in addition to conservation needs to be done. What else do we need to do? The answer appears to be carbon offseting. Politicians and Hollywood types are already doing it, perhaps we should do our part too.
